Watching Airplanes Go By

I had to distract him because Na was going home. And this day was to be one of those days where he'd very much like to be at her place to play with the kids and rabbits there. I knew it in my bones, cause he was no longer sickly. Naturally I understood that having been cooped up in the house for the last few days he had been suffering from chronic bored, despite the playdoughs, paints, books, toys and picture cards.

So I said to my son, "Let's go to the airport and watch the airplanes." His eyes went all big and bulgey. He was definitely interested. Suddenly Mae Na no longer seemed very interesting. 'I want to see airplane, Mommy." he said.

We drove to the newly opened airport, the Suvarnabhum Airport - pride of Thailand. It was officially opened this morning at 3.00a.m. Yes it got a bit messed up, glitches here and there, bag missing etc.

But it was a wondrous sight.

We parked the car at the side of the highway together with a great number of other people who were also out there to enjoy the sight of airplanes taking off and of course certainly, the pride of the nation, Suvarnabhum airport.

The first plane we saw taking off was a Thai Airways one, then it was followed by two Air Asia airplanes. "Jet engine airplanes, Mommy" shouted Taufik. "So biiiiig!' he said his eyes wide with wonder.

Then the sun began setting, a blazing ball of yellow and orange. It was gorgeous. As it got darker the airport was lighted up and it was a sight to behold (not as beautiful as KLIA though). Just me and my son, standing there two silhouettes against the rays of the sleepy sun, enjoying with abandonment the beauty of seing airplanes take flight.

A moment I will always treasure. Just you and Mommy, Tauf Tauf.
